VIDEO: Medical personnel turn to singing to relieve pressure

About 100 medical personnel in the central county of Changhua have turned to singing to relieve pressure and boost public morale amid the ongoing outbreak of the COVID-19.

COVID-19 is a disease that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December. Taiwan has 24 confirmed cases of the disease so far.

Medical personnel are the first line of defense again the disease. To boost public morale and to show support for one another during a stressful time, doctors and nurses at Show Chwan Memorial Hospital joined together in singing the song “Hand in Hand”. The song was made popular during the 2003 SARS outbreak.

Singing may not the best medicine, but it can certainly help boost the mood. Amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, some doctors and nurses in central Taiwan have come together to sing the song “Hand in Hand”, a song with lyrics that read “Hand in hand, my friend. Don’t give up.”

A doctor admits that they are under tremendous pressure because of the possibility that patients they see could carry the virus that causes the disease. 0050 His concern was echoed by a nurse who says she and others never know what will happen to them while on the job.  

To protect themselves, medical care workers wash their hands over 100 times every day. 0057 Infrared scanners are also in use to check patients’ and visitors’ temperatures.
