Many clinics and hospitals in Taiwan have implemented more stringent testing and cleaning measures. The goal is to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the influenza.
A team of medical staff are posted at the entrance of National Taiwan University (NTU) Hospital. Their job is to take the body temperature of everyone who enters. Inside the hospital, a second team is also monitoring the crowd’s body temperatures through an infrared sensor. These protocols were put in place to make sure no one with potential COVID-19 symptoms would slip through the cracks.
The Shin Kong Wo Ho-Su Hospital in Taipei is also stepping up their disease prevention game. The hospital’s director, Hou Sheng-mao, said the hospital has stationed equipment and personnel to detect COVID-19 infections on site. That eliminates the need to send potential cases to the Centers for Disease Control. Hou said these measures greatly accelerate the testing process and allows the hospital to quickly discern if a patient is infected with COVID-19 or the flu.
All clinics in Taiwan have adopted different measures when it comes to testing patients. Past methods such as snot suction and coughing will no longer be used, in order to minimize the odds of droplet infections.
