Taiwan announces 31st confirmed COVID-19 case
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung announced Taiwan's 31st case on Tuesday

Taiwan announced its 31st confirmed COVID-19 case on Tuesday. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said that this case was the grandson of Taiwan’s 27th confirmed case who is over 80 years old.

This grandson visited his grandfather in the hospital on February 11 and February 19 and was tested on February 23. After testing positive for the disease on Tuesday, he was put in an isolation ward at the hospital for treatment.

The 29th and 30th case are the younger son and wife of the grandfather. The younger son, who in his 40’s, developed respiratory symptoms on January 29 but did not see a doctor. On February 23, he was admitted to a hospital isolation ward after he was listed as a close contact of the 27th case, his father.

The son had frequently traveled to China for work, including Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak. He returned to Taiwan from his last trip to China from Guangdong Province on Dec. 2.

Meanwhile, the 30th case is the wife of the grandfather. She is over 70 years old and was diagnosed with acute pharyngitis on Feb. 6.

The CDC said that they have identified 580 persons who have come in contact with this family and tested 144 of them. Four of them tested positive. These are Taiwan’s 28th to 31st confirmed cases. Another 122 tested negative while the rest are still being tested.
