Experts are suggesting that people keep a distance of one meter from each other and companies should stagger working hours. Those suggestions were proposed at a COVID-19 seminar held by National Taiwan University’s College of Public Health on Monday.
The dean of the college, Chan Chang-Chuan says COVID-19 has already spread to 63 countries. Taiwan also has cases of community transmission and hospital-acquired infections. He said COVID-19 is going to have a greater impact than SARS and that people should be very careful.
Chan said companies should make adjustments to help people keep a distance from one another. "If companies have different groups of people going to work between 7am and 10am, that can reduce contact," he said. "We don’t want to have to close off cities like they did in Wuhan. Even Italy had to do that. Our people should follow what the government says and not just wait until companies or schools have to close. If everyone cooperates and staggers working hours, it is possible to do so, especially with such good modern IT tools."
Chan said people can use alternative ways of communication like video conferencing. If people keep a distance from one another, they don’t have to wear face masks all the time.
