Taiwan announced its 42nd case of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The patient is the family member of a patient who was in the same ward as Taiwan’s 34th case of COVID-19.
The new case is a woman over 50 who had accompanied a family member who was staying in the hospital from February 17 to February 24. She had brief contact with nurses who were infected with COVID-19 but the exact source of infection is still being investigated.
On February 23, she went to see the doctor because she was coughing and fatigued. On March 1, she was tested with a group of high risk patients and family members who had stayed with patients in the hospital.
The 34th case has already infected 6 others. The Central Epidemic Command Center said these were hospital-acquired infections. The head of the center’s ad hoc group Dr. Chang Shan-chwen said all the cases were in the same ward. They have already closed and cleaned that ward. They are also tracking down all those who have come in contact with Taiwan’s 34th confirmed case and the cases afterwards.
