Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei is first in the world again in women’s doubles tennis.  The WTA ranking came after her third joint victory with partner Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic at the Qatar Total Open in Doha this weekend.

On her Facebook page on Wednesday, Hsieh thanked her fans for their support. She said that reading their encouraging comments left her in tears.

She also shared about her training. She said, “Since December, I’ve either been training or on my way to training. I haven’t rested until today.”

But she said the intense training has been tough. She said that when she played in Dubai in February, she was on the verge of physical and emotional burnout. But she knew that she had to keep going to be in the top 10 and qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

When fans asked her about the uncertainty over how COVID-19 might affect the Olympics, Hsieh said that she would prepare herself, and leave the rest to God.

Hsieh is Taiwan’s most accomplished tennis player and is known for her unique style of playing. She hits the ball with two hands on both sides which makes her shots unpredictable.

Hsieh held the number one ranking for five non-consecutive weeks in May and June 2014 with her former doubles partner Peng Shuai from China.
