VIDEO: Taiwan bans visitors from four countries from using public transport
Taxis are disinfected for passengers from four infected countries

Visitors from four countries are being barred from Taiwan’s public transport systems in an effort to minimize the risk of COVID-19. They will be given the option of getting around with special taxis set aside for their use.

As the COVID-19 outbreak has spread across the world, Taiwan has put quarantine measures in place for people arriving from China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran. The measures apply to arrivals from Hong Kong and Macau as well as from Mainland China.

Now, as the outbreak continues, Taiwan has decided to bar arrivals from these countries and regions from using public transport. Those who violate the ban could be fined up to US$33,000. Special taxis are being set aside to take those under quarantine to get medical attention should they require it. These taxis are carefully disinfected to protect both passengers and drivers.

In an effort to recruit drivers for these special taxis, the southern city of Kaohsiung is offering monthly salaries of US$3,000.
