A new set of government guidelines is expected to recommend that events with more than 1000 attendees not be held. The guidelines are part of the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control released a set of guidelines in late January about holding public gatherings during the outbreak. However, these guidelines did not spell out rules about events of different sizes and varieties.
The new guidelines, expected to be released Thursday, will define events with more than 1000 attendees as “large scale gatherings”. The guidelines are not expected to ban these events outright, but they will ask that organizers analyze the risks involved before holding them.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said Wednesday that organizers who decide to go ahead with large-scale events will be required to ensure adequate ventilation and at least a meter of space for each attendee. In addition, organizers will have to prepare quarantine facilities and take other measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
