President Tsai Ing-wen has expressed her appreciation to members of the US House of Representatives for passing the TAIPEI Act. The act aims to “express United States support for Taiwan's diplomatic alliances around the world”.
Tsai met with American Institute in Taiwan Chairman James Moriarty on Thursday, just hours after the US House of Representatives passed the act in a unanimous vote. Tsai thanked House members for taking concrete steps to show support for Taiwan’s bid to join the international community.
Meanwhile, American Institute in Taiwan Chairman James Moriarty said that Washington will help Taiwan expand its space on the global stage.
“Under our long-standing commercial and strategic partnership, US-Taiwan cooperation now expands technical and humanitarian areas that will define our futures, enabling us to confront common threats and drive global progress, for as we say ‘strive together and thrive together.” During President Tsai’s second term, we will redouble our efforts to expand Taiwan’s participation on the global stage, a need exemplified by the ongoing spread of coronavirus," said Moriarty.
