Taiwan has confirmed a 45th case of COVID-19. The case is part of a cluster of eight infections centered on a hospital in northern Taiwan.
The patient, a woman in her fifties, is believed to have contracted the disease while hospitalized for a different condition. The ward where she was staying also housed a patient with COVID-19, although in a different room.
The woman was discharged in late February. But because she had been in the same ward with a confirmed COVID-19 case, health authorities considered her to be at risk of infection too. She was subject to health screening, along with other people who had been in close proximity to the COVID-19 patient.
She has tested positive, and her case was officially confirmed Friday.
