Taiwanese athletes will continue to take part in qualifiers for the upcoming 2020 Olympics despite the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
At a briefing session at the Legislature held Wednesday, Sports Administration head Kao Chun-hsiung said that Taiwanese athletes have so far qualified for 31 spots in nine different sports. He said that other athletes will continue to compete in qualifying events in the hope of securing more spots.
Kao said that the Sports Administration has begun verifying the travel histories of all athletes affiliated with the National Sports Training Center. It is also enforcing disease prevention measures for all of the center’s athletes. Kao said the administration is also trying to book direct flights for all athletes competing abroad to minimize the chance of athletes coming into contact with large groups of people.
