Taiwan has confirmed its 49th case of COVID-19. The patient is a Taiwanese woman in her 40’s who recently traveled through Europe.
According to the Central Epidemic Command Center, the woman traveled to the UK, Ireland, Belgium, and Turkey between February 21 and March 8. She showed no symptoms upon returning to Taiwan. However, she was admitted to a hospital Tuesday after she developed a headache and a sore throat and began feeling fatigued.
The woman was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday and is now in quarantine.
The command center says there is a high chance the woman was infected while traveling abroad. It also says that the woman’s relatives have yet not shown any symptoms. The center says it will continue to monitor the health of everyone who has come into contact with the woman in recent days, including travelers, shuttle bus drivers at the airport, and hospital staff.
