Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hotel and service industries, a significant proportion of Taiwan’s employees feel that work has resumed as usual. That’s according to a recent survey.
The results of a new survey by 104 Job Bank show that 84% of employees feel that work has gone back to normal despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Still, some companies are encouraging their workers to take vacation, and 2.3% of employers have resorted to downsizing and slashing wages to deal with dwindling demand as they feel the outbreak’s economic bite.
A senior official from the job bank says that the heaviest-hit sectors of the economy include the entertainment business as well as hotels and restaurants.
Job seekers have mixed views about the outbreak’s impact on their prospects. 46% believe the job market is not being affected by the outbreak, whereas close to 24% said they’ve seen a drop in the number of interview opportunities. Many workers also say that they don't want to change jobs due to the bleak outlook of the job market.
Despite job seekers' views on the situation, the job bank says that its figures suggest the number of total job openings has seen a slight uptick in recent months.
