Taiwan’s Legislature has passed a special budget meant to alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The budget provides NT$60 billion (US $2 billion) in funding. NT$19.6 billion (US$650 million) will be used for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The remainder is to be put towards the relief of industries hit hard by the outbreak.
Half of the budget will come from budgetary surpluses from previous years, while the other half will be taken out in loans.
The Legislature passed the budget on Friday, approving the same amount proposed by the Cabinet. The budget will be effective through June 30, 2021.
