Food delivery services have begun refusing to deliver to hospitals due to fears about the spread of COVID-19. Taiwan’s national railway company has stepped in to do the job instead, offering some of their famed railway lunch sets to medical staff.
A man disguised as a delivery worker delivers a huge bag of boxes to a Taipei hospital. Inside each box is a meal for one member of the hospital’s medical staff.
The man dressed as a delivery worker is actually Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung. He’s taken it upon himself to deliver lunch to doctors and nurses because he’s heard that delivery companies are refusing to serve hospitals because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Lin said that medical staff should be encouraged for their hard work. The Taiwan Railways Administration, which is part of Lin’s ministry, is offering its famous railway lunch set to medical workers at a 10% discount when they show their IDs. The national railway company says it is delivering to hospitals within three kilometers of Taipei Main Station with no delivery charge.
Lin says this special delivery service will eventually be extended to six cities including Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.
