Gov’t expands fleet of vehicles used to transport quarantined arrivals
Travelers entering Taiwan hand over personal health and travel history declarations at Taoyuan International Airport.

The government has expanded a fleet of vehicles being to transport arrivals at Taoyuan International Airport. That’s as a new quarantine measure affecting all incoming passengers takes effect.

Beginning Thursday, all arriving passengers are required to self-quarantine for two weeks. That means no one arriving in Taiwan is allowed to take public transport.

The airport had put together a smaller fleet of vehicles as increasingly stringent quarantine measures came into effect in previous weeks. But now, it faces the challenge of getting all arriving passengers to their final destinations.

The challenge is especially big, even as Taiwan’s borders are shut to foreign visitors. That’s because canceled plans and travel restrictions elsewhere have led a wave of Taiwanese citizens to head home. Around 9000 people are expected to come into Taiwan through Taoyuan Airport on Thursday alone.

To make sure all get where they are going, the transport ministry has added a large number of vehicles to the airport’s existing fleet. There are now 400 taxis and 200 rental cars as well as tour buses ready to transport quarantined arrivals to every part of Taiwan. As a precautionary measure, the tour buses will only be filled to around half of their capacity.
