The foreign ministry is arranging the return of Taiwanese citizens stranded in Morocco and Peru due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said Thursday that over 70 citizens were able to leave Morocco on Wednesday thanks to the government’s arrangements. More than 40 additional citizens are expected to head back from Morocco on Thursday, with still others to follow.
Meanwhile, the government is also making arrangements to evacuate the 103 Taiwanese citizens stranded in Peru after the Peruvian government cut off international transit links. Around 60 of these citizens have already agreed to the idea of paying for seats on a charter flight back to Taiwan via Miami.
The foreign ministry is working to arrange such a charter flight. The planned flight will take off from the Peruvian capital, Lima. Taiwan’s local representative will make further travel arrangements for citizens outside Lima wishing to leave on the flight.
