Government working to evacuate citizens from Hubei: Premier
Premier Su Tseng-chang speaking to reporters

Premier Su Tseng-chang says that the government is working hard to evacuate Taiwanese nationals stranded in China’s Hubei Province. Hubei’s capital, Wuhan, is the origin of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Though Wuhan itself remains under lockdown, China has lifted restrictions on travel from the rest of Hubei Province.

Taiwan has prepared two charter flights over the weekend to carry Taiwanese citizens stranded in Hubei Province back home. Those looking to get a seat on one of these flights will have to make their way to Shanghai. Flights between Shanghai and Taiwan are among the few cross-strait flights that continue to operate.

The premier says that the government wants to ease the burden on evacuees by lowering their airfares. However, he says that will require more coordination between airlines and government agencies.
