Sure, the COVID-19 outbreak has left Taiwanese people unable to travel abroad. But that doesn’t mean they’re unable to go anywhere at all. In fact, a recent music video promoting the southern city of Kaohsiung has led to a renewed appreciation of just how much variety Taiwan has to offer travelers.
Taiwan has fallen in love with a song by Malaysian singer Namewee singing the praises of Taiwan’s southern port city, Kaohsiung.
One reason is the way the music video showcases the city’s beauty. There are the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas at Lotus Lake, the views of the city’s light rail line, and much more.
At a time when COVID-19 has shut down international travel, people here are suddenly realizing how much the city has to offer. More broadly, the music video also has people coming to appreciate how much there is to see and do in Taiwan as a whole.
Take Pingtung’s Jiupeng Desert, for instance. It may not be large, but with the right camera angle, it can make a good stand-in for the Sahara. Those craving European architecture can feast their eyes on Pingtung’s Lady of Fatima Parish Church. And those dreaming of Tibet but unable to make to the Potala Palace will find Tainan’s Tibetan temple a real treat. From culture and cuisine to landscapes and natural wonders, Taiwan delivers.
