Taiwan will soon have new rules requiring people to maintain social distance. But, some are concerned that those rules may be tough to follow in a place as dense as Taiwan.
With global cases of COVID-19 on the rise, “social distancing” has become the name of the game. Keeping a safe distance from other people is vital to cutting down transmission.
Deputy Health Minister Hsueh Jui-Yuan (薛瑞元) says that social distancing rules will be rolled-out in three steps. The first step is creating concrete guidelines for people to follow. The second is educating the public on the measures. And the third, and final, step will be fining people who don’t comply.
Space in Taiwan is limited, though, so it will be difficult to follow social distancing rules in tight spaces -- like subways, elevators, and even restaurants. Long lines of people waiting to buy face masks could get even longer when the new rules kick in. And as for taking someone’s temperature when they enter a public space? That might be impossible to do from a distance.
