The Cabinet has revised a draft bill governing a COVID-19 relief budget. The revision passed Thursday, and will allow for an injection of NT$1.05 trillion (US$34.6 billion) into the budget, pending legislative approval.
Taiwan’s legislature has already passed its own special budget of NT$60 billion (US$2 billion) to cope with the impact of COVID-19.
However, Premier Su Tseng-chang said Thursday the government decided to set aside NT$150 billion (US$5 billion) more because the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified.
Su said the relief budget will be spent on propping up the business sector, the job market, and the logistics sector, as well as on ensuring uninterrupted cash flows.
