Taiwan’s National Health Research Institutes has developed a reagent that can be used to make rapid tests for COVID-19.
The work follows up on earlier research the institute conducted on SARS in collaboration with the National Defense Medical Center.
Researchers found a similarity between the antibodies humans produce in response to SARS and COVID-19. This similarity means that the antibody produced in response to SARS can be used to test for COVID-19.
This method of testing gives results in just ten to 15 minutes. Researchers plan to do further tests, and the institute will meet with business representatives next week to discuss trial production.
