Taiwanese nationals in Wuhan may only return via charter flights
Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung

Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung says that Taiwanese nationals in Wuhan, China may only return to Taiwan on specially designated charter flights. Hsu made the announcement Wednesday, as Wuhan ended a lockdown that had been in place for more than two months due to COVID-19.

Hsu said that any Taiwanese citizens in Wuhan who try to take an ordinary commercial flight back to Taiwan will be stopped from boarding by Chinese customs agents.

Hsu was asked Wednesday about progress towards arranging further charter flights to bring Taiwanese citizens home from Wuhan. Hsu said that any further flights will need the approval of the government’s Central Epidemic Command Center and the Mainland Affairs Council. The Mainland Affairs Council is the top government body charting Taiwan’s China policy.

However, Hsu said that centralized quarantine sites are already in place for a possible influx of Taiwanese nationals returning home from China.
