President Tsai Ing-wen has expressed her appreciation to the military for its role in helping curb the COVID-19 pandemic. Tsai was speaking Thursday while inspecting navy and army units in southern Taiwan.
Tsai said soldiers have succeeded in their mission of stopping the disease’s advance without neglecting their routine training. The army’s chemical unit has played a particularly important role in stopping COVID-19, taking on duties such as helping with disinfection. The president said the fighting spirit demonstrated by the military reassures the public that it is capable of safeguarding Taiwan.
