The defense ministry says that it detected Chinese warplanes conducting an exercise off southwest Taiwan early Friday.
The Chinese air force bombers, jet fighters, and airborne early warning systems taking part flew through the Bashi Channel before returning to their post.
The ministry says it monitored the situation closely as the exercises were underway.
