Taiwanese people love their fruit, and they visit specialty shops and stalls year-round to get their fix. But in a small Chiayi-area town, there is one fruit stall people visit to see a remarkable feat instead.
For around ten years, Wu Keng-hao’s fruit stall has been serving the town of Puzi in southern Taiwan. However fresh his produce might be, his customers mostly remember the stall because of the show they are treated to when they stop by.
Wu is a master with a knife. He can turn a whole pineapple into bite-sized pieces ready to serve in around just twelve seconds. He often does this several times in a row, earning him the local nickname “the pineapple man”.
His technique is one part of his secret. But then, there’s the blade he wields, a custom knife made of black steel. He says this helps with the cutting process.
COVID-19 has driven demand for pineapples down, and now, he is hoping cheaper pineapples and his own polished skills will win him more business.
