Forbes magazine has highlighted President Tsai Ing-wen and six other women as national leaders with the best coronavirus responses. That was in an article published on Monday.
The article said that Tsai Ing-wen had “among the first and fastest moves” in the world. In January, at the first sign of the illness, Tsai introduced 124 measures to block the spread without having to resort to the lockdowns that much of the world has experienced.
Forbes also cited CNN’s praise that Taiwan has “among the world’s best responses” which has kept the epidemic under control.
The article also highlighted exemplary moves by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Norway Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The article highlighted their commitment to truth, decisiveness and love. They were clear on the seriousness of the pandemic and acted quickly rather than wasting time in “denial, anger and disingenuousness” as other leaders have done.
Forbes praised Merkel for being frank from the start about how serious the disease was and starting testing early. It also cited how Ardern locked New Zealand down when there were only six cases while Iceland offers free testing for all citizens.
