Taiwan can help the world more with full participation in WHO: Tsai

President Tsai Ing-wen says that Taiwan would be able to do more to help the rest of the world if it could be a full participant in the WHO. Tsai was speaking during an interview Thursday.

Tsai said the reason why several countries have voiced their support for Taiwan’s bid to join the WHO is because Taiwan has protected itself against COVID-19 despite being excluded from the global health body.

Tsai said Taiwan’s participation in the WHO is “incomplete” and dependent on Chinese approval. Tsai said that in the past ten years, 70% of Taiwan’s requests to take part in WHO expert meetings have been rejected.

Tsai said that with full participation, Taiwan will be able to deal with the pandemic in a more thorough manner.

Tsai also accused the WHO of failing to make public information Taiwan provided last December on the diseases’ ability to transmit between people.
