COVID-19: Staff at Taiwan’s Palau embassy test negative
Taiwanese embassy staff in Palau were tested for COVID-19 after a number of Taiwanese sailors who recently visited the country fell ill.

The foreign ministry says that staff at Taiwan’s embassy in Palau have tested negative for COVID-19.

24 diplomats, technical experts, and embassy workers, as well as their dependents, were tested for COVID-19 at Palau’s national hospital. That’s after a number of Taiwanese sailors who had been in the country on a friendly visit were diagnosed with the disease on their return to Taiwan.

Palau has not yet recorded any cases of COVID-19, meaning that it remains unclear how the naval personnel became ill. The negative test results mean that contact with embassy staff is unlikely to be the cause. In addition, 24 Palauans in charge of receiving the sailors during their visit have also tested negative.
