The Central Epidemic Command Center says that bans on cross-strait flights and transfers through Taiwan will be extended after they expire next week.
The center made the announcement Thursday. That’s as the COVID-19 outbreak peaks in Europe and North America, and both South and Southeast Asia see an uptick in the number of cases.
The center says extending these two bans is meant to stop the spread of COVID-19 into Taiwan. The majority of the 427 cases Taiwan has recorded so far have been imported. The center did not say when the bans might be lifted.
