President Tsai Ing-wen says the government will fully support businesses hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tsai was speaking Tuesday.
Tsai said while Taiwan has won global recognition for containing the new coronavirus and curing patients, the country faces challenges to its economy.
Tsai said the government will do its best to offer financial assistance to individuals and businesses stricken by the COVID-19 outbreak. She said about 1.41 million people have already received cash payments from the government. Loans taken out by individuals and companies have also been on the increase.
Individuals affected by the outbreak can take out a loan of NT$500,000 (US16,000).
