Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says Taiwan welcomes the Netherlands’ move to change its office name in Taipei. Wu said on Monday the name change indicates close and friendly ties between the two sides.
The Netherlands Trade and Investment Office said on Monday that it will change its name to Netherlands Office Taipei. It also said the name change, which goes into effect immediately, reflects the progress in relations between the two sides as the office has expanded into many new fields in the past few years.
Wu said the move is a positive development for bilateral ties. Wu also said he hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in the future.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Netherlands does not have large-scale celebrations for King’s Day, its National Day on April 27. On Monday, it donated 3,999 tulips to Taiwan to show its appreciation to front-line health care workers.
