Charter flight brings Taiwan citizens back from South Asia
A group of114 Taiwanese citizens and 15 foreign nationals with Taiwan connections arrived on a charter flight from New Delhi Tuesday, part of efforts to repatriate citizens stranded abroad by COVID-19.

A charter flight from New Delhi carrying Taiwanese citizens and some foreign nationals arrived at Taoyuan Airport early Tuesday.

On board were 114 Taiwanese citizens, along with 15 foreign nationals who work in or have family in Taiwan. They came from different parts of India and Bangladesh, where they had been stuck due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nine of the passengers were given COVID-19 tests immediately upon landing after declaring on arrival forms that they had experienced symptoms of the disease during the previous two weeks. All of the passengers have been sent to a quarantine center where they will spend two weeks.

This flight is the latest in a string of actions the foreign ministry has taken to help repatriate Taiwanese nationals wishing to return from South Asia. Between April 1 and April 28, the ministry helped 103 Taiwanese citizens secure passage home from Mumbai and Delhi on Japanese and South Korean aircraft.

The foreign ministry says it will continue working to get Taiwanese citizens in South Asia safely home, including a group of citizens reportedly seeking a way back from the Maldives.
