Taiwan is preparing for a scaled-down inauguration ceremony on May 20, in light of the pandemic. Among the special guests: the national epidemic prevention team.
The ceremony will begin with the swearing in of President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President William Lai at 9am at the Presidential Office. Then, the premier, and the secretaries general of the Presidential Office and of the National Security Council will also be sworn in.
That will be followed by an inaugural event at the Taipei Guest House. It will feature a video thanking outgoing Vice President Chen Chien-jen. There will also be videos from foreign dignitaries congratulating the president on her inauguration.
President Tsai Ing-wen will give her inaugural speech at 10 am in the outdoor plaza of the Taipei Guest House.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no overseas guests in attendance. The guest list includes the heads of the five branches of government, military representatives, party representatives, city and county leaders, heads of foreign representative offices, and the national epidemic prevention team.
