Taiwan saw one new fatality from COVID-19 on Sunday. That brings the total number of deaths to seven out of 440 cases. There were no new cases reported on Monday.
The patient who died was a man in his 40s who was infected with the new coronavirus overseas. He had no history of chronic illness. The man started having symptoms on March 19 and sought treatment on March 21. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24.
The patient did not have pneumonia when he entered the hospital and was treated in an isolation ward. He was transferred to an intensive care unit on March 28, after showing respiratory symptoms. He then died on May 10 after multiple organ failure.
Of Taiwan’s 440 cases, 55 are domestic infections and 349 are imported. Another 36 are connected to a cluster infection on board a navy ship. A total of 368 patients have recovered from COVID-19, while 65 are still being treated in isolation wards.
