Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said that Taiwan will reopen its borders to trade and business from Hong Kong and Macau first. Chen said on Tuesday that’s because he is confident of their containment of COVID-19.
Chen said the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) is discussing border control issues. Currently, they’ve decided that they would first open to trade and business coming from Hong Kong and Macau. Taiwan would open to visits for other purposes later. Chen also said the main issue with border control is still implementing personal protection measures.
Meanwhile, much attention has been given to Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong’s arrival in Taiwan. He is currently undergoing the 14-day quarantine required of all overseas arrivals. Chen said that they approved Wong’s trip as it is fulfilling his contract to come to Taiwan to film.
On his Facebook page Tuesday, Wong hinted that he is preparing to become a Taiwan citizen. The award-winning actor is known for his support of the 2014 Umbrella Movement and recent democracy protests in Hong Kong.
