The foreign ministry says that 14 of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies have put forward a proposal for Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Assembly as an observer.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the WHO. It is set to hold its annual session on May 18 and 19, this time online due to COVID-19. Taiwan has been barred from the annual assembly in recent years due to pressure from China.
The only one of Taiwan’s 15 allies that did not take part in putting the proposal forward is the Vatican, which is not a WHO member.
