Premier Su Tseng-chang says the government is planning to take several steps to boost the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Su was speaking Thursday during a Cabinet meeting.
Su said the government will speed up infrastructure and investment projects by Taiwanese businesspeople bringing back their operations from overseas. The goal is to boost domestic demand.
Su also said his Cabinet will map out a second phase of the government’s infrastructure development program and put forward a plan to prepare for the post-pandemic era.
Meanwhile, the government has unveiled a stimulus package with a budget of NT$210 billion (US$7 billion) designed to mitigate COVID-19’s impact on livelihoods.
Su said that more than eight million people have benefited from the package so far, and that the government has already given out preferential loans totaling NT$500 billion (US$16.6 billion).
