The Legislature has passed a law that sets up standards for a public health license. The law had been stuck in the Legislature for nearly two decades until it passed Friday.
The law sets the standards, credentials, and prerequisites for certification in the field of public health. It is the first law in any part of Asia that does so. It also clearly outlines what those with public health licenses are qualified to do.
DPP lawmaker Wu Yu-chin says that the lack of an official certification before had made public health jobs difficult to find, with the result that many decided to leave the field. The new law is expected to reverse this situation, attracting those who left the field back into public health positions.
