President Tsai Ing-wen has promised to build a working environment that strikes a balance between discipline and personal rights for the military police. Tsai was speaking Tuesday during an inspection tour of the Military Police Command in Taipei.

President Tsai Ing-wen, along with National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo and Defense Minister Yen De-fa, Tuesday inspected the Military Police Command.

Tsai urged the military to maintain their high standards. She also promised to build a working environment that embodies discipline and protects personal rights at the same time.

Tsai said the military police, under the defense ministry, not only helps maintain social order, it is also responsible for cracking down on crime.

Tsai said since 2018, the military police have done much to help the High Prosecutors Office in its anti-drug campaign. Tsai inspected the military police’s drug-busting dog unit, which was set up earlier this year. The president gave the sniffer dog that successfully detected drugs a towel as a reward.
