A total of 96 Taiwanese nationals, who were stranded in Russia following the COVID-19 pandemic, have returned to Taiwan.
They flew back to the island Tuesday afternoon after boarding a charter flight from Moscow to Tokyo’s Narita Airport.
The charter flight run by Japan Airlines carried 96 Taiwanese nationals and 47 Japanese citizens.
Japanese government spokesperson Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference on Tuesday that the charter flight is a good example of cooperation between Taiwan, Japan and Russia.
Yoshihide also thanked Taiwanese businessman Angelo Koo for donating one million face masks to Japan.
