Deputy Defense Minister Chang Che-ping says that China has never given up its threatened use of force against Taiwan.
Chang was responding Thursday to comments by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu the previous day on US television network Fox News. In an interview, Wu said China could scapegoat Taiwan for the rising international pressure it faces over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wu also said China remains prepared to use military force against Taiwan.
Chang said the defense ministry will continue to strengthen its monitoring of China’s military maneuvers. He also said while the military is not beefing up combat readiness at the moment, it has a well-prepared and flexible defensive plan that is ready to put into action at all times.
