Taoyuan International Airport is set to start evaluating bids for the construction of its third terminal on August 7. The airport held a presentation to explain the conditions of the project on Thursday. Representatives of 68 domestic and foreign companies attended the seminar, indicating interest in the project.
The head of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, Lin Kuo-shian, says that five construction firms will be chosen for the project.
Terminal 3 has failed to secure a bidder several times, mostly due to an ambitious design that was deemed too costly and labor-intensive for construction firms to pull off. However, Lin says that four main issues with the terminal’s original design have been addressed in order to attract bids. The design has been simplified and the budget increased in hopes of finally securing construction firms for the job.
