Taiwan had no new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with the total resting at 443. It’s been 52 consecutive days of no new domestic cases. Right now there are just eight people in hospital being treated for COVID-19. Seven people have died from the disease and 428 have recovered and have been released from the hospital.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said that Taiwan is safe from COVID-19. But he said that the country will continue working to develop a vaccine and treatment in order to help reign in the global pandemic.
Taiwan is set to ease social distancing measures on June 7. The transportation ministry says that masks will no longer be required on the nation’s railways and high speed rail if passengers are able to maintain social distance.
The health minister is continuing to promote what he’s calling a “disease prevention lifestyle.” That means face masks, social distancing and temperature checks will still be required in certain places.
Chen said that officials are discussing when and how to allow stateless children of Chinese spouses to return to Taiwan, and when to begin admitting foreign students again. (XXX)
