The foreign ministry has discussed disease prevention cooperation with 9 countries in Africa and western Asia to help them combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The countries include eSwatini, Turkey, Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
In these teleconferences, experts exchanged views on disease prevention measures, vaccine development, rapid test kits, medication development and animal testing. They also agreed to set up a platform to exchange information and promote cooperation when the pandemic subsides.
As Taiwan has successfully contained the COVID-19 pandemic, it plans to have similar meetings with other countries.
Meanwhile, the Palau government has arranged for a charter flight to take 11 Palau nationals back to Palau on Wednesday. Some were transferred to Taiwan for medical treatment and family members accompanied them. They will be testing for COVID-19 before boarding the charter flight.
