The transportation ministry said on Tuesday that it is considering opening up flights to more Chinese cities. As the COVID-19 outbreak has been largely contained in Taiwan, the government is planning on gradually opening up Taiwan’s borders.
Since February 10, Taiwan has only allowed cross-strait flights to and from Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen and Chengdu.
Many businesspersons have been asking about the opening of cross-strait cargo and passenger flights. On Tuesday, the transportation ministry said it is evaluating the opening up flights to Shenzhen, Chongqing, Qingdao, Ningbo, and Changsha. It said both cargo and passenger flights are under consideration. The transportation ministry said it would work with the Central Epidemic Command Center and Mainland Affairs Council on evaluating this plan.
Meanwhile, after cancelling flights to Taipei in mid-March, the United Arab Emirates will resume flights between Dubai and Taipei three times a week beginning June 17.
