The Mainland Affairs Council says that Taiwan is not yet ready to reopen to students from Hong Kong or Macau. The Mainland Affairs Council is Taiwan’s top China policymaker.
On Wednesday, the council’s deputy minister, Chiu Chui-cheng, said that the government is continuing to watch how the COVID-19 pandemic is unfolding in the two territories. Chiu also said that the government is paying attention to moves by other countries to reopen their borders to Hong Kong and Macau residents.
Chiu said the Central Epidemic Command Center will need to assess the feasibility of reopening Taiwan to students from Hong Kong and Macau. He also said the Mainland Affairs Council will meet with education ministry officials to discuss measures related to any reopening.
