The Central Election Commission has officially removed the KMT’s Han Kuo-yu from his position as mayor of the southern city of Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung residents voted to remove Han from office in a recall election held June 6.
The Cabinet has appointed one of the city’s former deputy mayors, Yang Ming-jou, to serve as interim mayor until a by-election can be held. The Central Election Commission says that this by-election will take place on August 15. The winner of this election will serve out the rest of Han’s term.
