Taiwan Coalition, an alliance of civic groups, is calling on the legislature to hold a special session this month to pass bills to change the name on Taiwan’s passport and national airlines. Taiwan’s passport currently carries the name Republic of China while its national carrier is China Airlines.

Taiwan Society Chairman Li Chuan-hsin said that over 80% of people in Taiwan believe they are Taiwanese. People often mistake Taiwan as China due to the name used on Taiwan’s passport. He said that as the world has recognized Taiwan’s successful containment of COVID-19, now is the time to change the name on Taiwan’s passport and national carrier.

Alliance of Referendum for Taiwan Chairman Luo Yi also said Taiwan can start making Taiwan's name known internationally by putting “Taiwan” on these national symbols.
