Business travelers to be allowed to apply for shortened quarantine
Starting June 22, the government will allow certain business travelers coming to Taiwan apply to reduce the length of their stay under quarantine.

The government has outlined rules that will let business travelers coming to Taiwan spend less time under quarantine once they arrive. The rules are set to take effect June 22.

Business travelers hoping to shorten their period in quarantine will have to apply in advance, and must meet several criteria to be approved.

They must first fall into one of the categories of foreign nationals that the Central Epidemic Command Center has declared admissible. They must also show that they will not be in Taiwan for more than three months and that the purpose of their travel to Taiwan is business-related.

In addition, they must be traveling from one of the countries or territories that the Central Epidemic Command Center has deemed low- or medium-risk for COVID-19 infection. They must also show that they have not traveled to any other country or territory during the fourteen days prior to their trip to Taiwan.

The list of low- and medium-risk countries for COVID-19 is being updated every two weeks in response to changing circumstances.

As of Wednesday, June 17, the countries and territories on this list are New Zealand, Australia, Macau, Palau, Fiji, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mongolia, Bhutan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Those who meet these criteria will need to supply proof of invitation by a company, an itinerary, and a plan for preventing against COVID-19 infection. They will also need to supply a report showing that they have had a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 within three days of coming to Taiwan, and that the results have come back negative.
